Queen's Cake

Ingredients

  • Servings: 12
  • 1/2 cup crisco
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, unbeaten
  • 2 cups sifted cake flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • light cream
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Recipe

  • 1 cake directions: combine shortening, salt and vanilla. add sugar gradually and cream until light and fluffy. add eggs one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. sift flour and baking powder together three times. add small amount of flour to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating after each addition until smooth.
  • 2 pour batter into two greased 8-inch layer pans or a bundt pan. bake in a moderate oven 375f or 25 minutes, bundt pan for 45 minutes at 350°f

  • 3 frosting directions: sift confectioners' sugar. add light cream to reach frosting consistency. add a dash of salt and vanilla.
