molasses cake

Ingredients

  • Servings: 1
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup hot, brewed coffee

Recipe

  • sift together salt, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, flour, and baking soda.
  • cream shortening and sugar gradually, then add molasses and eggs. mix in sifted ingredients. stir in hot coffee; batter will be thin.
  • bake at 350 degrees f (175 degrees c) for 30 minutes. cool.
