Nova Scotia Oat Cakes

Ingredients

- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 cups shortening
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 2 cups bran flakes
Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- 2 add soda to boiling water and let stand until cool.
- 3 mix together flour, baking powder, salt, bran flakes, rolled oats and sugar.
- 4 cut in shortening; add water and soda.
- 5 roll out thin on a floured board.
- 6 cut into 3 inch rounds.
- 7 bake in hot oven until golden brown.
