Self Frosting Marshmallow Applesauce Cake

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 50 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon clove
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 cup walnut halves
  • 20 large marshmallows

Recipe

  • 1 sift dry ingredients together.
  • 2 add shortening, eggs and applesauce.
  • 3 beat until smooth and well blended.
  • 4 fold in walnuts.
  • 5 pour into greased and floured 9x13" pan.
  • 6 press whole marshmallows into batter to bottom of pan.
  • 7 (twenty marshmallows should make 4 rows with 5 marshmallows to a row). they will rise to the top during baking and make the frosting.
  • 8 bake at 350 for about 50 minutes.
