"aunt Johnnie's" Pound Cake

Ingredients

- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup butter
- 2 1/2 cups sugar
- 5 eggs
- 2 teaspoons almond extract
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 3 cups cake flour
Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 300ºf.
- 2 lightly grease and flour a 10 inch bundt pan.
- 3 cream shortening, butter and sugar until light and fluffy with an electric mixer
- 4 (this will take a while).
- 5 add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- 6 beat in almond extract.
- 7 in another bowl, combine baking powder and flour.
- 8 stir into creamed mixture alternately with the milk, starting and ending with flour. pour batter into prepared pan.
- 9 bake in the preheated oven for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- 10 allow cake to cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
