Nova Scotia Ginger Cake

Total Time: 55 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 35 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup hot water

Recipe

  • 1 cream together butter, shortening and sugar.
  • 2 add egg and molasses, mix until smooth.
  • 3 add dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves.
  • 4 add hot water and beat until smooth.
  • 5 pour into a prepared 9x9 baking pan.
  • 6 bake at 350°f for 35 minutes.
